The Old Guard 2 – Double the Immortals, Double the Mayhem

If there’s one undeniable reason to watch The Old Guard 2, it’s the thrill of seeing Uma Thurman wield a sword again. Her portrayal of Discord gives serious Black Mamba energy—deadly, elegant, and just unhinged enough to be fun. The showdown between Thurman’s Discord and Charlize Theron’s Andy is the centerpiece everyone is waiting for. The film teases it, builds it up…and then pulls back just when things are heating up!

Let’s be clear, if you’re looking for tightly wound, cerebral storytelling in the vein of Christopher Nolan, The Old Guard 2 isn’t going to scratch that itch. But if what you crave is chaotic John Wick-style carnage paired with Fast & Furious logic—where immortals, conspiracies, and over-the-top action sequences collide—then this sequel delivers exactly the kind of nonsensical fun you’re looking for.

Before diving in, I had to rewatch the original The Old Guard just to remember where things left off. Andy suddenly lost her immortality, Nile officially joins the team, and Booker is in exile for betrayal. Copley turns from foe to friend. The sequel expands upon these storylines and provide an explanation for the events that have unfolded. The first movie ended with a cliffhanger as Booker gets a visit from Andy’s old partner in crime Quynh. We learn that Quynh escaped from captivity thanks to Discord. She is not happy to learn that Andy had been free this whole time. The story is set for a battle between immortals. In my opinion the sequel improves on the original in terms of pacing and action, even if it introduces a few more plot holes along the way. But let’s face it, no one’s here for airtight storytelling.

As for that long-hyped duel between Andy and Discord? It’s surprisingly anti-climactic. The two barely exchange blows before the film abruptly hits you with a cliffhanger, clearly saving the full payoff for The Old Guard 3. Still, despite the tease, I’ll be watching the final installment when it drops. Hopefully, they wrap this saga with a satisfying bang—and please, let it end as a trilogy. Dragging it out beyond that would only dilute the fun.
